Hunger
Aware that the issue of hunger is growing among children and families, Palms seeks to anticipate need and respond in sustainable ways.
BEAM
Palms supports BEAM by participating in food drives to stock the shelves of food pantry at BEAM.
Mission House
More than 600 volunteers, including many from Palms, prepare and serve nutritious meals at the Soup Kitchen, a Palms sponsored lunch on the third Saturday of each month. Beaches Community Kitchen delivers “Meals on Wheels” Monday through Friday.
Kids Kitchen
When school guidance counselors affirmed an increasing issue of hunger among the Beaches children especially during the summer months, Palms members established Kid’s Kitchen, a unique summer food program for children living in the community. A nutritious, easily-prepared menu was created providing six meals per child for a weekend. The meals are distributed from the Donner Center in Atlantic Beach where, during the week, children are served a nutritious lunch during the out of school season.
This program began in 2005 and has served 100 children each summer. Palms members volunteer a necessary service each summer by purchasing and packaging the appropriate amounts and nutritious food in small portable bags.
